It’s tough to know if someone is a capable director before you’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with her. The workdays in production are long, so if you ask me—what you’re looking for is a caring, decisive leader with an even keel.

What I personally add to that is enthusiasm and very clear communication. My work has allowed me to see 6 continents and a number of extreme environments. That’s made me pretty adaptable.

It is a personal minimum to create relationships with my teammates, in which they feel safe to create, fail, and flourish. I also want everyone to eat well and go home on time. What I’ll tell you here is that I love directing, but not for the reasons many others do. What others find stressful, I find invigorating. Direction is about expanding story to include mastery of pace, place, and detail. It is about recognizing, empowering, and enhancing the gifts of others. It has been a humbling discovery for me that my most natural skill is uniting the talents of others. I have strong opinions, but when I come across an artist or a technician I respect, there is nothing more rewarding for me than creative collaboration. The brainstorming, the problem solving…from soup to nuts, there is no element of production that doesn’t enliven me.

Although I do have a strong voice all my own, I excel at matching established style, when needed. I’ve written everything from blurbs and queries to scripts and tech reviews. Article? Yep. Screenplay? Of course. Copy? You betcha. I’m more than happy to send you a writing sample or script upon request. There’s a good chance I’ve already produced text in your desired genre. It doesn’t need to be painful or embarrassing. Producing, shooting, and finishing a film or video project can be very daunting. None of us know what we don’t know until we talk to someone who does. I will be the first person to point you to someone else if you need services out of the scope of my experience, but I more than likely will be able to at least set you in the right direction.
